I have been practicing law in Spartanburg with my law firm, Henderson, Brandt and Vieth, PA for nearly 50 years. I have an eclectic practice, with a mixture of plaintiff personal injury cases, real estate transactional matters, domestic and probate matters, plus whatever crosses the threshold. I began painting at age forty when a friend inspired me by giving me a copy of Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, by Betty Edwards, and I have been painting nonstop since then. I am self-taught. I would say that my painting style is very color driven and leans toward Impressionism/Fauvism. I have been influenced by many artists, including Matisse and my great uncle, Warren Brandt, who was an artist in New York until his death in 2002. For me, painting is an escape from the pressures of practicing law. It is not a neat and deliberate process, but is an opportunity to escape to my studio, turn up the music and to dance with the paint on a canvas.
You should try it. It is very good for the soul.
